Finnish printers into Flexotech Awards finals

Finnish printers have been nine years in a row at Flexotech Awards
Finnish printers qualified again into the Flexotech International Print & Innovations Awards finals. This year, like many other years, RKW Finland Oy and DS Smith Finland made again their way to the finals in Flexible Packaging and in Corrugated Post-Print categories. Both companies have been several times earlier in the finals and have also received awards for their high quality flexo printing. The highly appreciated awards ceremony will be held on October 16th in London.
RKW Finland is the leading flexo printer utilising the benefits of process printing, due to which it also has received the Expanded Gamut Printing – EGP™ partner certificate from Marvaco. With EGP the RKW Finland is able to offer GreenerPrinting™ incorporated with greener substrates to its clients. This year’s finalist job is a high quality printed beverage shrink film for Carlsberg.
The Falcon, Carlsberg job shows how the high resolution printing with fine details and expanded color gamut are producing rich colors with lots of contrast from highlights to shadows. Moreover, the packaging includes a high degree of difficulty as the strong solid colors are combined with small and sharp texts that are also refined with a shiny metallic and gold effect in a clever way. All this is achieved in a more sustainable way made in process printing.
In the competition DS Smith Finland manifests their capability for high quality corrugated post print with the Froneri Nestlé ice cream packaging with delicious details. The job shows how the fluting effect has been eliminated in cooperation with prepress supplier Marvaco’s FullHD+ technology. Moreover, the packaging includes a high degree of difficulty as the small and sharp texts are also integrated in the design while the sheets are printed in very large format. The job is a very good example how a previously offset printed job can be moved to the high quality flexo.
Marvaco as the prepress supplier for both these jobs has been making a long-term cooperation with printers to offer HiQ EGP™ and GreenerPrinting™. The printers results have been awarded over 50 times in the 21st century with the multiple awards and finalist rankings in international printing competitions.
The FullHD EGP technology enables a higher-quality, efficient and more productive packaging printing with no need for spot colours. Digitally predictable brand colours and packaging prints can be efficiently implemented with process inks where the CMYK printing is enriched with OGV (Orange, Green, Violet) inks. With this method, brand colours that have been difficult to implement in the past can now be implemented in a controlled and precise manner, batch after batch.
In addition to flexography, EGP can also be used in digital and offset printing, which enables uniform colours for packages printed with different methods. International brand owners and printing companies are widely interested moving on to EGP, while the Finnish printing industry is the European EGP leader.
